The Dushanbe power and heat station cannot provide the city’s population with hot water because of acute fuel shortages, Shavkat Saidov, a chief spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor’ office, remarked at a news conference on January 27.

According to him, the city authorities make thoroughly preparations for the winter period every year, while facilities subordinate to Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding do not have opportunities to provide the population with hot water.  “For example, we made 260 apartment buildings in the city ready for the heating season, but the power and heat station cannot provide hot water because of acute fuel shortages,” the spokesman said.

Besides, the Dushanbe power and heat station’s ageing infrastructures requires upgrading.  “The mayor’s office plans to begin to gradually replace hot water pipes in the near future,” Saidov said.

He added that water meters would be installed in all residential buildings in Dushanbe in the near future.  The water meters will be installed free of charge
