More than 3,000 families to be moved from area for Roghun reservoir soon

DUSHANBE -- More than 950 families have been moved from an area for construction of a reservoir of the Roghun hydroelectric plant (HPP) this year, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Shukurjon Zuhurov remake data news conference in Dushanbe on October 22.


According to him, 541 families from villages near the city of Roghun and 410 families from the Nourobod district have been relocated to Khatlon’s Danghara district and the Tursunzoda district in central Tajikistan.


“In all, we have to relocate 40 villages, totaling 4,700 families, from the area for the Roghun reservoir to other districts of the country,” said the minister, “More than 3,000 other families will be relocated to mountain areas of the Nourobod district.”


Besides, the ministry has submitted a three-year program for resettlement of 3,019 families for consideration to the government, Zuhurov added.  





Government plans to allocate some $150 mln for Roghun hydroelectricity project this year

DUSHANBE -- Tajikistan’s national budget for 2010 earmarks 650 million somoni (equivalent to more than 148 million U.S. dollars) for the Roghun hydroelectricity project, which is 135 million somoni more than last year, Minister of Finance Safarali Najmiddinov told reporters in Dushanbe today.


According to him, this year’s budget also earmarks 30 million somoni for implementation of other energy projects.  “20 million somoni will be allocated for construction of the Sangtuda-2 hydropower plant and 10 million somoni are intended for construction of small power plants and conducing feasibility study for construction of the Shurob HPP,” the minister said.


In all, 1.073 billion somoni are earmarked by the national bank for 2010 for enhancement of the country’s energy sector, he added.
